Chinese traditional twenty-four solar terms - Lixia

Lixia is the eighth solar term in the traditional Chinese twenty-four solar terms, and it usually occurs on May 5 or 6 in the Gregorian calendar, when the sun reaches 45° of the yellow longitude. At this time, the earth is gradually warming, everything begins to grow, and summer officially begins.

After the beginning of summer, the weather gradually warms up, the temperature gradually rises, and the rain begins to increase. Farmers start to sow summer crops. People will also eat some cool food, such as mung bean soup, jelly, ice cream, etc., to relieve the hot weather in summer.

In addition, Lixia also has some traditional customs. For example, in the Jiangnan area, there is a custom of "Lixia eats egg yolk crisps, neither greasy nor sweet", which means that on Lixia day, some greasy and sweet food should be eaten to welcome the arrival of summer. In some areas, "Five Poisons" amulets will be affixed on the day of Lixia to drive away pests and diseases.
