Dragon Boat Festival

The Dragon Boat Festival is one of the traditional Chinese festivals, also known as the "Dragon Boat Festival" or "Duanyang Festival", held on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. The Dragon Boat Festival originates from ancient Chinese folklore, which says that Qu Yuan, a minister of Chu during the Warring States period, drowned himself in the Miluo River due to his dissatisfaction and frustration with the political situation in his country. In order to remember this great patriotic poet, people began to commemorate the fifth day of May every year in the Warring States period, and gradually evolved into a festival activity.

The main activities of the Dragon Boat Festival include dragon boat racing, eating zongzi, hanging calamus and drinking realgar wine. The Dragon Boat race, one of the most representative activities of the Dragon Boat Festival, is said to have been launched to search for Qu Yuan's body. Eating zongzi was due to the fact that after Qu Yuan committed suicide, people threw zongzi into the river to avoid fish and shrimp choking on Qu Yuan's body, which later evolved into a food. Hanging calamus and drinking realgar wine are to ward off evil spirits and protect health.

The Dragon Boat Festival is an important part of traditional Chinese culture and one of the cultural heritages of the Chinese nation. Today, the Dragon Boat Festival has become a national holiday and is also celebrated and inherited by Chinese people all over the world.
